Partners Imaging Centers offers advanced liver imaging and tissue characterization using our Siemens 3T MRI scanner.

This includes Magnetic Resonance Electrography (MRE), MRI with PDFF (proton density fat fraction) and Liver Multiscan.

Partners is one of only a few imaging centers in the USA to offer all of these services. Historically, it has been difficult to determine liver inflammation or early stages of fibrosis by conventional imaging.  Now, with specialized software and Partners 3T MRI scanner, highly detailed images and tissue characteristics of the liver can be provided. Colored liver maps are created to show whether the liver is healthy, has fatty liver disease (NAFLD), inflammation, early or late fibrosis, or cirrhosis. Unrecognized NASH (nonalcoholic steatohepatitis) is potentially a serious, progressive disease that can now be detected at an early stage and potentially reversed. If left untreated, this could progress to irreversible late stage fibrosis or cirrhosis, which in turn could lead to additional complications, including cancer. By using Partners Imaging advanced liver imaging techniques, this can now be detected non-invasively at an early stage, and potentially eliminate the need for a liver biopsy. All reports, including colored liver maps are accessible by your physician via the Partners Physician Portal. Some liver diagnostic exams are covered under Medicare and commercial insurance carriers, while others may require a modest out of pocket cost. Please call for more information. Dr Goldberg (who has performed hundreds of procedures) can provide a biopsy of the liver if requested by your physician. This is performed in our Sarasota center.
